Introduction
Phase 1 of the Raeburn Place Stadium redevelopment delivers a modern, multi-use sporting and community facility at the heart of Stockbridge, laying the groundwork for future phases of development.
Background
The project provides new stadium and rugby club facilities for the Raeburn Place Foundation, supporting Edinburgh Academical and other sporting groups. The development includes spectator stands for over 2,000 people, modern changing and gym facilities, and upper-level function rooms, alongside a large ground floor retail unit that engages directly with Stockbridge.
Challenges
Delivering a contemporary sports facility within a well-established and vibrant urban neighbourhood required careful coordination to balance operational sporting needs, commercial use and community integration. The project also needed to be future-proofed to allow a seamless transition into Phase 2 works.
Solutions
A coordinated, multi-disciplinary design approach enabled the efficient delivery of Phase 1 while safeguarding future expansion. The result is a flexible, high-quality facility that supports elite and community sport, activates the street frontage through retail use, and contributes positively to the ongoing regeneration and vitality of Stockbridge.
