West Village

Harley Haddow was appointed by the MEP contractor, McGill, to carry out the detailed MEP design and services coordination. Both buildings are served from a single lower-ground floor plantroom in Block A. The residence is designed to provide high comfort and energy efficiency for a large student population, integrating services across heating, hot water, ventilation, and electrical systems.

The scale and density of the residence required careful thermal and daylight analysis to avoid overheating and ensure occupant comfort. Coordinating heating, ventilation, and hot water systems across multiple flats and studios, while balancing energy efficiency with peak demand, was complex. Integration of multiple MEP disciplines—including LED lighting, IT, CCTV, access control, and HV/LV electrical services—within the constrained building envelope also posed coordination challenges.

A central gas CHP plant provides primary heat and electricity, supplemented by high-efficiency gas boilers during winter. Studio and cluster flats are served via heat interface units from the central plant, delivering radiator heating, boosted cold water, and domestic hot water. Daylight and thermal modelling informed ventilation and overheating mitigation strategies. Electrical systems were designed for energy efficiency and integrated seamlessly with security and IT infrastructure. Harley Haddow provided full services coordination to ensure performance, compliance, and comfort for all building users.
