Introduction

This project involved the design and co-ordination of building services for an extensive RF-screened room facility. The specialist spaces accommodate multiple service-intensive environmental testing chambers, each requiring robust and highly controlled technical services to support complex testing operations.

MEP Solutions

Harley Haddow delivered a fully co-ordinated MEP design to integrate all required specialist services within the constrained RF-screened environment. The systems included liquid nitrogen supply, process cooling water, compressed air, gaseous nitrogen, three-phase power distribution and dedicated drainage. All routes and interfaces were carefully co-ordinated to maintain the integrity of the RF screening.

Technical Challenges

Working within RF-screened enclosures required meticulous detailing to avoid compromising shielding performance. Service penetrations needed to be tightly controlled, with specialist fittings and zoning strategies to prevent electromagnetic interference. The environmental chambers also imposed demanding load requirements, requiring resilience, redundancy and precise environmental control across all service lines.

Collaboration

Successful delivery relied on close collaboration between Harley Haddow, the equipment suppliers, RF-screening specialists and the wider design team. Early technical workshops ensured all service demands were fully understood, and co-ordination sessions allowed the team to integrate complex systems without impacting test chamber functionality or RF performance.
