Background
This project involved the construction of a purpose-built 500-bedroom student accommodation in central Dundee. The development comprises five to seven-room multi-occupancy flats with shared communal facilities, designed to provide high-quality residential living for students in a central urban location.
Challenges
The site was exceptionally tight and constrained, requiring careful planning and coordination to maximise usable space while maintaining access for construction. The development also consisted of five separate blocks ranging from six to ten storeys, presenting structural, logistical and services integration challenges.
Solutions
Harley Haddow provided full engineering design support, ensuring that the multi-block layout and high-rise construction were coordinated efficiently. Innovative design and careful site planning enabled the delivery of high-density student accommodation with fully integrated communal facilities, while optimising structural and MEP systems to suit the constrained urban site.
