Introduction

This project focused on the sensitive restoration and adaptive reuse of a former steading building, transforming it into a contemporary visitor centre and micro-distillery. The development brings together heritage-led design, modern distilling operations and a strong emphasis on sustainability, creating a destination that supports both production and visitor engagement.

Background

The project involved the restoration and conversion of a former steading building to create a visitor centre and micro-distillery, bringing a disused rural asset back into productive use.

Challenges

The existing building fabric required sensitive intervention to accommodate modern distilling and visitor functions. All site services were outdated, necessitating full renewal while carefully integrating new infrastructure within the constraints of the original structure.

Solutions

Harley Haddow delivered a comprehensive MEP and services strategy, including the renewal of all site utilities and the development of a sustainable building energy solution. The approach balanced operational efficiency with long-term resilience, supporting both distillery processes and visitor facilities while minimising environmental impact.
