Introduction
This project involved a comprehensive upgrade of the external environment, focusing on hard landscaping, infrastructure improvements and public realm enhancements. The scope covered surface finishes, drainage, utilities, road alterations and lighting redesign.
Civil & Structural Solutions
Harley Haddow delivered detailed design for hard landscaping surface finishes, ensuring durability, accessibility and visual cohesion with the architectural intent. Infrastructure works included upgrades to below-ground services and utilities, revised road layouts and improved parking arrangements. A full redesign of street lighting was also undertaken to enhance safety, efficiency and visual comfort.
Technical Challenges
Improving site drainage within an existing developed area required careful assessment of surface levels, falls and connection points to ensure robust performance during heavy rainfall. Integrating new utilities alongside existing below-ground infrastructure demanded precise co-ordination to avoid clashes. Road and parking improvements also had to meet current standards while working within the constraints of the existing site boundary.
Collaboration
The project required close partnership with the architect, landscape team, local authorities and utility providers. Early co-ordination workshops ensured the hard landscaping proposals aligned with architectural vision, while continuous engagement with statutory bodies supported timely approval of drainage and street lighting designs. This collaborative approach enabled a cohesive public realm upgrade that met functional, aesthetic and regulatory requirements.
