Introduction

This project involved the creation of a new critical care and clinical unit, providing primary care services to the local community. The development repurposed a derelict former police station and women’s refuge into a modern medical hub, delivering a GP surgery, dentist surgery and pharmacy within a single integrated facility.

Building Design & Features

The new facility was carefully designed to accommodate clinical treatment spaces, consulting rooms and supporting back-of-house areas. The layout ensures efficient patient flow, accessibility and compliance with modern healthcare standards, while maximising the usability of the converted building.

Sustainability & Energy

The building design incorporated energy-efficient systems and low-carbon solutions to reduce operational energy use, providing a sustainable medical facility. Passive design strategies and careful integration of mechanical and electrical systems support low-energy operation while maintaining a comfortable environment for staff and patients.

Our Role

Harley Haddow was engaged from the earliest stages, delivering full MEP consultancy and overseeing the conversion of the former police station and women’s refuge. The team worked closely with the client and design team to integrate clinical requirements with the existing structure, ensuring compliance, performance and long-term maintainability of the new community medical hub.
