Strong Teams Build Stronger Projects: David Campbell on Investing in People

Behind every successful project is a strong team.
For David Campbell, National Director of Civil Engineering, one of his biggest priorities isn’t simply growing the national civil engineering team, it’s building on the strong foundations already in place by investing in our people.
With more than 35 years of industry experience, David believes that supporting engineers to develop personally and technically is fundamental to delivering better outcomes for clients.
“It’s about taking the foundation at the moment, helping the staff to grow personally and technically, giving them the benefit of the experience that I’ve had throughout my career, nurturing those people and as a group working together to continuously elevate the product that we deliver.“
Building from strong foundations
For David, technical excellence starts long before a project reaches site.
It begins by fostering an environment where engineers are supported, challenged and encouraged to learn from one another. By sharing experience, developing technical capability and nurturing talent, Harley Haddow continues to strengthen the quality of the service it delivers.
Rather than changing what already exists, David’s ambition is to build on the quality and expertise within the team, helping individuals develop while strengthening the civil engineering offering as a whole.

David Campbell is Head of Civil Engineering at Harley Haddow, leading the continued growth and development of the Civil Engineering team across the UK. With more than 35 years of industry experience, he oversees the delivery of civil engineering services while championing technical excellence and multidisciplinary collaboration. David is committed to strengthening Harley Haddow’s Civil Engineering offering by building trusted client relationships and delivering practical, value-driven engineering solutions.
Stronger team. Better outcomes.
As part of this vision, David is focused on mentoring engineers at every stage of their careers and creating opportunities for them to expand their technical knowledge and confidence.
He has already seen first-hand how investing time in further developing colleagues can make a tangible difference, with early career engineers growing in both confidence and the quality of their work.
Alongside developing existing talent, David also sees opportunities to strengthen specialist capability within the group in areas such as flood risk and geotechnical engineering ensuring the team continues to evolve alongside the changing needs of clients and the wider industry.
Investing in people benefits clients
For clients, this focus on our staff means more than career development for our people. By investing in the people behind the projects, Harley Haddow is continuing to build a strong civil engineering team that combines technical excellence, commercial awareness within a collaborative environment all creating stronger foundations for every project and better outcomes for every client.

That is why our approach is tailored to the individual project rather than shaped around a standard solution. Understanding…View Full Post
