Harley Haddow offer an industry-leading environment of engineering experts and the chance to work on a huge range of projects and sectors throughout the UK.  We have three modern, open plan, central offices and encourage ongoing training throughout our teams as well as the chance to have input on the business direction and growth.  Some of our senior management started as graduates and now run their own teams and offices.

Harley Haddow is fully committed to supporting staff through further education and have in place a training scheme for apprentice and graduate engineers.  We assign mentors to staff in these roles and continue to support staff through their career with us to achieve their learning and development goals including further study and chartership.

Project Electrical Engineer,
Glasgow

Harley Haddow are consulting engineers working in the Mechanical, Electrical, Energy, Civil and Structural disciplines. We work closely with Architects and other design orientated colleagues to deliver award winning design focused buildings throughout the UK.

We currently have a vacancy for a full time Project Electrical Engineer to join our busy MEP department based in our Glasgow office.  As a member of the department your responsibilities will include input to the delivery of the Mechanical & Electrical Services Design on assigned projects along with general assistance to the electrical engineering team

The position demands excellent communication skills; you will be representing Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Assist the electrical engineering team with day to day tasks.
  • To assist in the preparation of Electrical Services Scheme Design proposals.
  • To assist in the delivery of Electrical Services detailed design/ production information.
  • Be actively involved in the day to day operations of the design office.
  • Be willing to adapt and gain vital experience to develop your engineering and design skills

Candidates should have the following experience and skills;

  • Suitable degree qualification in Electrical / Electronic or Building Services discipline. Other degrees shall be considered and reviewed in line with the requirements of the position.

Junior Structural Technician,
Edinburgh

Harley Haddow are consulting engineers working in the Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Energy disciplines. We work closely with Architects and other design orientated colleagues to deliver award winning design focused buildings throughout the UK.

We have a vacancy for a full time Junior Structural Technician to join our busy Structural department based in our Edinburgh office.

Your responsibilities will include the preparation of CAD drawings (general arrangements and details) of the Structural and Civil Engineering designs undertaken by the Engineers. This will involve preparation of CAD drawings from hand drawings, sketches or from CAD layouts prepared by others.

You shall be responsible for the plotting, issuing, archiving and filing of CAD drawings produced by Harley Haddow and of incoming drawing information received from other design team members and Contractors.

You will be given in-house training on relevant technical drawing software e.g. AutoCAD and Revit.

You will attend college on a day release basis to study NC/HNC in Civil Engineering or similar, depending on qualifications.

 

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Preparation of CAD drawings for issue to external parties to meet agreed programmes and deadlines
  • Receipt and management/filing of incoming drawings from other design team members and Contractors
  • Filing and archiving of CAD drawings prepared by Harley Haddow
  • Maintaining CAD standards

 

Candidates should have the following experience and skills;

  • A minimum of five Nat 5’s at grade A-C including Mathematics, English, Science and an appropriate technical subject
  • Interest in Structural/Civil Engineering and construction
  • Excellent day to day IT skills

Senior Energy Engineer,
Edinburgh, Glasgow or London

Harley Haddow are consulting engineers working in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Energy disciplines. We work closely with Architects and other design orientated colleagues to deliver award winning design focused buildings throughout the UK.

We currently have a vacancy in our Energy department for an experienced Senior Energy Engineer to join our busy team.  You will be responsible for the design and delivery of a number of prestigious projects whilst supporting senior management in day to day roles. You will also be responsible for the development and training of junior/graduate engineers along with general co-ordination of the Energy department’s workload.

The position demands excellent communication skills; you will be representing Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members.  You should have enthusiasm for energy engineering and the projects you deliver and an ambition to progress your career to the next level.

The role would include the training and development of the candidate, including working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer, if this is not already attained.


Key responsibilities will include;

Responsibility for the delivery of the energy strategy/route to compliance on projects assigned to you

  • Develop environmental strategies and energy solutions for buildings
  • Production of engineering calculations and studies using IES dynamic simulation software
  • Carry out energy audits and surveys
  • Supervise and plan workload for junior engineering staff
  • To assist in the management of projects or particular elements of projects to ensure delivery dates are met
  • To liaise closely with the Director and ensure that tasks are programmed and achieved.
  • To assist with supervision and management of graduate/project engineers.
  • You shall be aware of the time and costs spent on projects.


About You

Candidates should have the following experience;

  • A suitable degree qualification in Energy/Renewables/Mechanical Engineering or Building Services discipline (other degrees shall be considered and reviewed in line with the requirements of the position)
  • Membership of an appropriate Institution (CIBSE or equivalent)
  • Qualified Low Carbon Energy Assessor (Level 5)
  • Current and previous experience of a similar role
  • Excellent day to day IT skills
  • Full working knowledge of IES software

Project Civil Engineer,

Edinburgh Office

We work closely with developers, private and public bodies, architects and other design orientated colleagues to deliver award winning design focused buildings throughout the UK.

We have a vacancy for a full time Project Civil Engineer to join our busy Civil/Structural department based in our Edinburgh office.

As a member of the department your responsibilities will include preparing CAD/BIM drawings on assigned projects and managing specific civil engineering design software along with general assistance to the Civil engineering team and the department more widely.

You will have strong design experience along with excellent communication skills, and be able to represent Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members as well as being able to manage your own workload.

Key Responsibilities will include;

  • Assist our Senior Civil Engineering staff in preparing and developing civil engineering designs, reports and commentarys from concept through to delivery.
  • Preparation of the detailed design or parts of the design, reviewing any sub-consultants designs and drawings and liaising with third party specialists.
  • Liaising with your structural and civil engineering colleagues in-house and also with the wider design team and statutory bodies.
  • Reviewing any Contractor’s designs and drawings.
  • Attending design and site meetings as necessary.

 

Candidates should have the following experience and skills;

  • Completed a suitable qualification in Civil engineering discipline. Other degrees/qualifications shall be considered and reviewed in line with the requirements of the position.
  • Civil design experience; e.g. SUDS, roads and drainage and site visit and survey/inspection experience is essential
  • Excellent day to day IT skills
  • Experience of Autocad and Civils3D (Preferable but not essential)
  • Experience in software packages including PDS and microdrainge or similar (Preferable but not essential)

With an expanding workload in our London and Glasgow Engineering design studios, we are seeking to appoint a Structural Project Engineer with post graduate experience to improve our team.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects including education, healthcare, residential and leisure buildings.

You will have excellent communication skills, and be able to represent Harley Haddow through direct contact with clients and other design team members as well as being able to manage your own workload.  You will also have strong architecturally driven design experience.

Key responsibilities will include;

Responsibility for the delivery of the energy strategy/route to compliance on projects assigned to you

  • To assist in the management of projects or particular elements of projects to ensure delivery dates are met

About You

Candidates should have the following experience;

  • A relevant Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
  • Relevant UK structural engineering design experience
  • Ability to design to British Standards and Eurocodes in a variety of materials; steel, reinforced concrete, timber etc.
  • Experience, though not essential, in software packages including Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, CSC Fastrak Building Designer and Integer SuperStress
  • Site visit and survey/inspection experience
  • Ability to work independently
  • Highly organised individual with keen attention to detail
  • Confident & capable individual with strong technical & communication skills
